Resilience Framework CYP

Simon Duncan

Simon Duncan

Trainer and Project Worker

In my youth, people would often tell me that I was resilient, in part due to the fact that I am a full-time wheelchair user. At that point in my life I didn’t really understand just how complex resilience was. I thought resilience was an innate quality reserved for superheroes and Lara Croft – you either had it or you didn’t. However, I have always been encouraged to hone my voice and use its power to confront adversity in society for myself and others.

Since I joined Boingboing a year ago, I’ve been able to simultaneously discover more about resilience and use my public speaking skills to demystify resilience for others. I’ve been involved in a number of projects for Boingboing such as multiple presentations about being resilient whilst having a physical disability to a variety of different audiences including professionals and trainee social workers.  Furthermore, I have helped to publicise, organise and co-facilitate different consultation events. Additionally, I have designed material to capture demographic information from the people who attend these events for our final reports. I also undertake work looking into mental health issues in young adults as well.

My primary ambition is to enable others to have the tools and confidence to overcome any adversity that they face. With Boingboing I’m in an ideal position to achieve my goal. Ultimately I’m here to learn and am eagerly awaiting any opportunity to showcase and enhance my skills. I’m excited to see which project I bounce onto next.
