Session summary: Kris Fernandes and Sarah Wilkins presented some of the theories and current thinking around using strength-based rather than risk-based child protection models of practice. Kris discussed how a particular model is used within health in a London community health trust and Sarah talked about her recent work with foster carers locally using the Resilience Therapy framework.

Biography: Kris is a Lecturer at the University of Brighton School of Nursing and Midwifery teaching mainly child protection and child health. Her most recent nursing/health visiting practice is within safeguarding and liaison work in London. Sarah is a Social Work Practice Manager, teaching child protection, safeguarding and well being within the School of Education at the University of Brighton, and practices locally within the Fostering Service.
